Red Dead Redemption 2 gives you a template for gang names in its own cast: the Van der Linde gang, the O'Driscoll Boys, the Lemoyne Raiders, the Del Lobos, the Murfree Brood, the Skinner Brothers and the Night Folk. Real gangs of the era followed the same patterns, usually a leader's surname plus 'gang' or 'boys' (the James-Younger Gang, the Wild Bunch, the Dalton Gang) or a place name that told the law where to look. A good posse name for Red Dead Online borrows one of those shapes and roots it in the map: a town like Valentine or Rhodes, a region like Roanoke Ridge or the Heartlands, a landmark like Horseshoe Overlook or Beaver Hollow.

The list above also draws on the game's own language: Dead Eye, bounty posters, the Blackwater ferry, the Tahiti plan, moonshining, the Trader and Collector roles, Cripps and Madam Nazar, Capitale and Blood Money missions, and lines that RDR2 fans quote to each other (Have Some Faith, One More Score, Revenge Is a Fool's Game). Weapon names (Schofield, Lancaster, Volcanic, Rolling Block) and horse breeds (Turkoman, Missouri Fox Trotter, White Arabian) give a name period detail without needing explanation.

Red Dead Online caps persistent posse names at a modest length and filters offensive words, so most entries here are two to four words that fit cleanly under a player's tag.
