Mascot Name Generator

A mascot name has one job: to be shouted by a crowd and remembered by a six-year-old. That is why the classic formula is a friendly first name plus the animal, usually alliterative: Gus the Gator, Wally the Wildcat, Penny the Penguin. The repeated first sound makes it chantable, the nickname-style first name (Gus, not Augustus) makes it approachable, and naming the animal means nobody has to guess what the costume is. Professional teams more often use a single punchy word that doubles as a personality, such as Sparky, Chomper or Rumble, and a few go for mock-formal titles that are funny on a jumbo screen: Captain Cyclone, Sir Hoots-a-Lot, Baron von Bark.

Company and event mascots follow slightly different rules. They are usually not animals but products or ideas given a face, so the name points at the thing being sold: Scoop the Ice Cream Cone, Pip the Pixel, Sudsy the Sponge. Short, soft, two-syllable names (Mojo, Biscuit, Nugget) read as cute on packaging and translate well across ages, while a pun name such as Hoops McGee or Slam Duncan signals that the brand does not take itself too seriously.

Use the list as a starting point, then say the finalist out loud in a stadium voice; if it works chanted three times in a row, it works.
