Light Novel Name Generator
Invented titles for light novels and web serials
Browse 500 invented light novel titles, not character names: long premise-as-a-sentence titles such as The Villainess Would Like to File a Complaint with the Author, and short ones such as Lantern and Tide. Covers isekai, villainess, slow-life, VRMMO, school romcom and regression stories.
About light novel names
Light novels are known for titles that state the whole premise in one sentence. Real examples include That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? and My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! The habit is often linked to web novel sites, where a title has to tell a browsing reader what the story is before they click. Short titles never went away, though: Spice and Wolf and Ascendance of a Bookworm sit on the same shelves.
This page lists titles, not character names, and all 500 are invented. They come in ten styles: reincarnation isekai, exiled-from-the-party and slow-life stories, villainess and otome-game plots, overpowered-skill and status-window titles, school romantic comedies, demon lord and hero comedies, VRMMO stories, Korean-style regression and hunter serials, short poetic titles, and titles with a subtitle. Most are 60 characters or fewer, and a few dozen run to the full sentence length the genre is famous for.
Long titles follow a pattern you can reuse: a narrator, a change of fortune, then a comma or a question and an unexpected result, as in Exiled to the Frontier, I Found Excellent Soil.
How to choose light novel names
- Put the hook first. Readers scrolling a web novel ranking may see only the opening words, so lead with the twist: They Exiled the Rain Mage and Now There's a Drought sets up its story in the first five words.
- A long title needs a short nickname. Fans shorten sentence-titles to a word or two, so check that yours holds a phrase worth abbreviating.
- Use a colon and a subtitle when you want both styles, as in Ghostlight Hotel: Checkout Is at Dawn. The short half fits a cover and the long half explains the premise.
- Match the title to the tone of the story. A comedy can promise a joke, as The Demon Lord Is Behind on Rent does, while a serious fantasy is better served by a short title such as Lantern and Tide.
- Before you publish, search the title on the sites where you plan to post. A premise-style title is easy to echo by accident, so make sure yours is not a near copy of a series that already exists.
Frequently asked questions
Why are light novel titles so long?
A long title works as a summary. On web novel sites and crowded store shelves a reader decides in a second or two, and a title such as I Was Summoned as a Hero, but the Paperwork Says Janitor gives them the premise and the tone without a blurb. The style became common enough that it is now also a running joke about the genre.
Does this generator make character names?
No. Every entry is a title for a book, a web serial or a fan project, such as Second Life, Third Try or The Regressor Forgot What Happens Next. For character names, use the isekai, manga or villainess name generators linked on this page.
Are these real light novel titles?
No. All 500 are made up in the style of the genre, and the real titles on this page appear only as labeled examples in the introduction. Nobody has compared the list with published series, so search a title before you use it for something you publish.
What kinds of titles are in the list?
There are ten styles. They run from reincarnation isekai, slow-life exile stories, villainess plots and status-window titles to school romcoms, demon lord comedies, VRMMO stories and regression or hunter serials. The last two groups are short poetic titles such as Ash and Apricot and subtitle titles such as Thorn Academy: Dueling Season.
