Kushite Name Generator

Kushite names come from the Nubian kingdom that ruled the Nile south of Egypt for more than a thousand years, first from Napata and later from Meroë. The earliest rulers we can name, Alara, Kashta and Piye, founded the 25th Dynasty and governed Egypt itself, so kings like Shabaka, Shebitku and Taharqa appear in both Kushite and Egyptian records, often with Egyptian throne names such as Khunefertumre alongside their birth names. Later Napatan kings kept Egyptian-style compounds built on the god Amun: Aspelta, Anlamani, Senkamanisken, Harsiotef and Nastasen.

From about 300 BC the court moved to Meroë and names shift into the Meroitic language, which is only partly deciphered. Meroitic royal names are long, rhythmic and full of the sounds q, kh, t and a: Arakamani, Natakamani, Teqorideamani, Amanikhabale, Yesbokheamani. The element Amani (Amun) opens or closes dozens of them. Kush is also unusual in the ancient world for its ruling queens, the Kandakes, including Shanakdakhete, Amanirenas, Amanishakheto and Amanitore, whose names follow the same patterns as the kings'.

Kushites used a single personal name rather than a family surname, sometimes followed by a title such as qore (king), kandake (queen) or peseto (viceroy). This list mixes attested rulers, queens, nobles and gods with new names that follow the same phonology.
