A fight club name has to sound like a place you were not supposed to find. The strongest names borrow from where the fighting actually happens: basements, loading docks, boiler rooms, parking garages, slaughterhouses and rail yards. The Meat Locker, Sub-Level Three and Boiler Room Fight Club all work because they describe a location with concrete floors and no windows. The second big source is the body: Split Lip Collective, Cauliflower Club, Busted Knuckle League and Black Eye Brotherhood advertise the cost of membership.

There is also a long tradition of ironic cover names, the joke being that the first rule is not to talk about it. The Tuesday Night Book Club, The Quiet Room and Room 106 sound harmless on a flyer and mean something else to members. Old-fashioned boxing words add authenticity: pugilist, southpaw, haymaker, prize ring, the Fancy (what Regency England called the bare-knuckle crowd).

For a real boxing gym, sparring group, MMA team or gaming clan, pick the register that matches the tone. Society, Lodge and Collective sound secretive and clubby; Brawlers and Maulers sound like a team; a bare location name (Cold Storage, The Loading Dock) sounds the most underground of all.
