Female Khajiit names for The Elder Scrolls: bare names with soft vowel endings, a share with honorifics such as S', Ra' and Dar', plus caravan bynames and clan titles. Try Zahrabi, Khenara, Ra'shuvi or Soft-Paws Ashuri.

About female Khajiit names

Khajiit are the cat-folk of Elsweyr in The Elder Scrolls, and their names are easy to spot by the honorifics attached to them: J'zargo, M'aiq, Ri'saad, Dro'marash. In the games, though, most of the characters who wear those prefixes are male. The women of the caravans and guild halls mostly go by one bare name with a soft vowel ending: Ahnassi, Ajira and Habasi in Morrowind, Ahkari, Khayla, Zaynabi, Atahbah, Shavari and Tsavani in Skyrim. This list follows that convention, so most of its names are bare names that end in -i, -a or -ah.

Honorifics are not closed to women. S'krivva is a Thieves Guild doyen in Oblivion and Ra'zhinda guards a caravan in Skyrim, so a share of the list carries a prefix. In series lore S' marks an adult, Ra' and Ri' mark status, Ma' and M' a child or apprentice, Dar' a thief, Do' a warrior and Jo' a wizard. We left out Dro', which means grandfather, and the J' family, which is glossed as bachelor. The Elder Scrolls Online also writes some honorifics after the name with a hyphen, so that shape is here too.

The rest are caravan bynames, titles such as Clan Mother and Moon-Singer, and names tied to Elsweyr's cities, from Riverhold to Senchal.

How to choose female Khajiit names

  • Start with a bare name. Most female Khajiit in the games have no honorific, so a name like Zahrabi or Tsavira already reads right for a Skyrim or ESO character.
  • Add an honorific only when it says something. S' suits any adult, Dar' a thief, Do' a warrior and Jo' a mage, while Ri' is best kept for someone who leads a clan, a caravan or a city.
  • Say it out loud in the third person. Khajiit often speak of themselves by name, so pick one you like hearing: Khenara has wares, if you have coin.
  • Some games and tabletop tools restrict punctuation in a name field. If a prefixed name is refused, drop the honorific and use the bare name that follows it.
  • Use a byname or a place as a backstory hook. Soft-Paws Ashuri suggests a thief, while Ashabi of Riverhold points to a childhood in the north of Elsweyr.

Frequently asked questions

How are female Khajiit names different from male ones?

The naming system is the same for both, but in the games the honorific prefixes turn up far more often on males, as in J'zargo, M'aiq and Ri'saad. Female characters mostly have a single bare name that ends in a soft vowel, such as Ahnassi, Ajira, Ahkari or Shavari. This list leans the same way, with names like Zahrabi, Nisheli and Khenara making up the largest share.

Can a female Khajiit have a prefix like S' or Ra'?

Yes. S'krivva in Oblivion and Ra'zhinda in Skyrim are both women with honorifics. Roughly a fifth of this list carries a prefix, for example S'ashara, Ra'shuvi, Ri'shanna and Daro'shani. We left out Dro', which means grandfather, and J', which is glossed as bachelor.

What do the Khajiit honorifics mean?

In series lore S' marks an adult, Ma' or M' a child or apprentice, Dar' a thief, Do' a warrior and Jo' a wizard, while Ra' and Ri' mark status, with Ri' the highest. They work like titles earned over a life, so a character can plausibly change hers as she grows. The games do not apply them strictly, so treat the meanings as flavor.

Do these names work for Skyrim, ESO and tabletop games?

Yes. Apart from about fifteen familiar names from the games, kept as reference points (Ahnassi, Khayla and S'krivva among them), these are new names written in the style of the setting, so they fit a Skyrim playthrough, an ESO character, fan fiction or a tabletop catfolk such as a tabaxi. ESO also uses hyphenated honorifics after the name, which is why the list has names like Shurabi-do and Zhimira-jo.
