Generate funny and cute contact names for the whole family, from Mom (Did You Eat) and Uncle Who Grills to Family Tech Support, Nonna (Sunday Sauce) and ICE Dad. The list has 1,000 phone labels for parents, siblings, cousins, grandparents and in-laws.

About family contact names

A family contact name is the label that lights up when a relative calls, and most people land on one of a few patterns. The most common is a title plus a note in parentheses, such as Mom (Did You Eat), Dad (Check Your Oil) or Mother-in-Law (Be Nice): the title tells you who it is and the note is the joke or the reminder. Role labels skip the title and name the job the person does in the family, like Family Tech Support, Aunt Who Brings Snacks or Uncle Who Grills.

The list covers the whole family tree: moms and parents as a pair, sisters, brothers, sons, cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, grandparents, in-laws, and step and bonus family. Siblings who want matching labels can share a set (Salt to My Pepper and Pepper to My Salt, or Rock, Paper and Scissors for three). There are also kinship words from other languages, such as Tita (Brings Leftovers), Nonna (Sunday Sauce) and Didi (Knows Best), for families who already use them at home.

The teasing is affectionate, the kind a relative could see on your lock screen. Practical entries such as ICE Dad and Grandma Landline sit beside the jokes. Entries are plain text, so add an emoji if you like.

How to choose family contact names

  • Put the title first and the joke second. Mom (Answer It) still shows up when you type Mom in the contact search, while a label that starts with the joke is harder to find later.
  • Keep the part before the parenthesis short. Call screens and notification banners cut long names off, so the first 20 characters or so should be enough to tell you who is calling.
  • For an emergency contact, use a plain label such as ICE Dad or ICE Sister, and also fill in the emergency contact or Medical ID feature in your phone's settings, which can be opened from the lock screen.
  • Siblings can pick a matching set and take one part each: Sibling 1 of 3, Sibling 2 of 3 and Sibling 3 of 3, or Gold Medal, Silver Medal and Bronze Medal by birth order.
  • A contact name can pop up on a car display or a shared screen. If the relative would not laugh at the joke, choose a warmer label such as Heart of the Family or My First Friend.

Frequently asked questions

What are some funny contact names for mom and dad?

For mom, try Mom (Three Missed Calls), Mom (All Caps Texter) or Chief Worry Officer. For dad, Dad (Thumbs Up Reply), Dad (Hi Hungry) and Human GPS (Paternal) get a laugh. If both parents share one number, a label like The Folks, Parent Hotline or The Supreme Court covers the pair.

What should I save my siblings as in my phone?

Tease them with a shared memory: Sister (Closet Thief), Brother (Fridge Raider), Shotgun Stealer or Cereal Thief. For a matching set, each sibling takes one part, such as Oldest Sibling, Middle Sibling and Youngest Sibling, or The Prototype, The Upgrade and The Final Version.

How is a family contact name different from a family group chat name?

A contact name labels one person or one household phone line, and it only appears on your own phone. A group chat name is shared by everyone in the thread. If you need a name for the whole thread, use the family group chat name generator linked below.

Can I use a word from my family's language as a contact name?

Yes, and many families do. The list has kinship words with a note attached, such as Lola (Call Her Back), Oma (Home) and Abuelita (Call Back), and some plain ones such as Hermanita, Bhai and Unnie. Use the word your family really says, since many languages have different words for relatives on the mother's side and the father's side.
