EverQuest Name Generator

EverQuest names follow rules that most newer MMOs dropped. A character name is a single word, capitalized, four to fifteen letters with no spaces, numbers or apostrophes, and the server filter rejects anything that is a real word, a famous name or an obvious title. Surnames are earned later and shown separately, which is why veteran Norrath names like Firiona Vie or Antonius Bayle read as a short given name plus a family name rather than a fantasy mouthful.

Each race has its own sound. Dark elves of Neriak favor sharp, sibilant names with apostrophes in their house names (T'Vyl, D'Vinn, Syl'Tor); iksar use hissing clusters like Ssr, Tsk and Zsa; vah shir names roll with doubled consonants and guttural Rh and Kh sounds; gnomes of Ak'Anon sound like tinkering (Fizzlethorpe, Bizzlefrak); ogres and trolls are blunt one- or two-syllable grunts; barbarians of Halas draw on Norse stock; high elves, wood elves and Erudites lean melodic or scholarly. Humans of Qeynos and Freeport use plain medieval names.
