Emo Album Name Generator
Album and EP titles for sad, loud records
Generate emo album and EP titles in the registers the genre uses: confessional phrases like Everything Hurts and I'm Fine, place titles like Songs From the Passenger Seat, short images like Bruises in Bloom, mock-formal guides, long Midwest emo sentences, scene-era drama, and names for live sets, demos and splits.
About emo album names
An emo album title has a different job from an emo song title. A song title can be one long confession; an album title has to hold ten or twelve of those confessions together, so it usually names the thing they share: a season, a town, a breakup, a year that went wrong. That is why so many titles in the genre read like the caption on a whole stretch of someone's life, such as Everything Hurts and I'm Fine or The Year I Didn't Go Home.
The list covers the main registers. There are first-person confessions and second-person accusations, places and seasons (driveways, parking garages, November), mock-formal titles in the shape of a guide or a history, one-word titles, and short images like Bruises in Bloom. Midwest emo gets its long, joking sentences, and the scene era gets its ballrooms, masquerades and curtain calls.
Records are not all full-lengths, so the list also has self-titled and volume-style names, acoustic and live collections, B-side and rarities sets, demos, and splits, where two bands share one release. Rerolls mix all of these, so keep going until one sounds like the songs you actually wrote.
How to choose emo album names
- Title the whole record, not the single. Ask what the songs have in common (one winter, one apartment, one friendship) and pick the title that names it, like The Winter We Shared a Coat or Split-Level Heartache.
- Long titles get shortened by everyone who says them out loud. Before you settle on a Midwest emo sentence, check that its first two or three words still sound good alone on a flyer.
- Keep the album title different from every track title, or borrow a line from a song deep in the running order so listeners find the title halfway through the record.
- Match the format. A demo or split wants something plain and a little self-deprecating, such as The Garage Demos or A Split With Our Best Friends; save the dramatic title for the full-length.
- Search the title on streaming services and music stores before you print anything. Short phrases are often already somebody's record, and nothing on this page has been looked up for you.
Frequently asked questions
What makes an album title sound emo?
Specific, personal detail and a little self-deprecation. Emo titles tend to name ordinary places and times (a driveway, a school night, the week after graduation) and say something honest about them, as in I Blame the Suburbs or Summer Ended on a Tuesday. Grand abstract words are rarer than small true ones.
How is an emo album title different from an emo song title?
Song titles in the genre are often full sentences about one moment. An album title is usually shorter and wider, a phrase that could sit over every song on the record, such as Songs From the Passenger Seat or A Calendar of Almosts. The long sentence titles here are mostly in the Midwest emo style, where long, joking titles are part of the tradition.
Does the list include EP, demo, live and split titles?
Yes. Alongside full-length titles there are demo and tape names like Four-Track Winter and The Garage Demos, live and acoustic collections like Live at the VFW Hall and The Campfire Versions, and split names for a release two bands share. Most of the other titles work for an EP as well as an album.
Can I use one of these titles for a real release?
Yes, you can use any of them for your own band, a school project, fiction or a fan work. They are meant as original phrases rather than copies of existing records, but short phrases repeat easily across thousands of records, so search for a title before you release music under it.
