Beastars Name Generator

Beastars names break the usual furry-fiction rule: almost nobody has a species pun in their name. Paru Itagaki gives her animals short, single given names with no surname, drawn from all over the map. Legoshi is a nod to Bela Lugosi, Louis and Juno are plainly Western, Haru, Aoba, Ibuki and Azuki are ordinary Japanese given names, and a few characters carry food or object names like Melon, Pina and Legom. The result is a cast that sounds like a cosmopolitan city rather than a zoo, which is exactly the tone of Cherryton Academy and the Black Market.

That is why a convincing Beastars OC name is short and a little deadpan. One or two syllables, no title, no clan, no "Fang" or "Claw" unless you are making a joke. The species is supposed to be invisible in the name and visible in the character. Adult gangsters in the Shishigumi and Madaragumi tend toward heavier, older-sounding names (Ibuki, Free, Yahya, Gosha) while students get lighter, younger ones (Els, Kibi, Tem, Zoe).

The names here mix the canon cast with hundreds of original single names in the same registers: Western, Japanese, African, Arabic, Slavic and Latin given names, a few Japanese food names in the Melon and Azuki tradition, and some gang and place names for fic writers.
