AKA Line Name Generator

Line names are the collective identities that new-member lines take on before they cross into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and they lean hard on the sorority's symbols. The most common building blocks are pearls (the twenty pearls represent the founders and incorporators), the ivy leaf, the colors salmon pink and apple green, the founding year 1908, and the call "Skee-Wee." As the first Greek-letter sorority founded by Black college women, AKA lines also carry pride in legacy, scholarship, and service.

Structurally, most line names follow one of a few patterns. The classic form puts the number of women on the line up front: "The 12 Pearls of Pretty Persistence" or "The 5 Ivies of Infinite Impact." Alliteration on P and I is almost a rule, matching Pearls, Pink, Poise, and Ivy. Another favorite is Greek-letter wordplay, replacing "Fi" or "Phi" sounds with PHI, as in "PHIrst Class" or "PHInomenal Pearls."

A strong line name should be easy to chant, easy to fit on a probate shirt, and specific enough that no other line on your campus has used it. Check with your chapter's graduate advisor before finalizing anything, since traditions and rules on line names vary by chapter and region.
