Starbucks Name Generator

Starbucks got its name from Moby-Dick: the founders wanted something that evoked the seafaring history of the early coffee traders, nearly went with 'Pequod' after Ahab's ship, and settled on Starbuck, the ship's first mate. That is why the logo is a twin-tailed siren, why the first store sits at Pike Place Market in Seattle, and why the whole brand carries a nautical, Pacific Northwest, slightly literary flavor. Later sub-brands followed the same logic: Reserve, Roastery, and single-origin 'small lot' language borrowed from wine, and product names like Frappuccino, Cinnamon Dolce, and Blonde Roast that sound premium without being hard to say.

A Starbucks-style cafe name, then, is not 'Java Joint' or 'Bean There Done That' (though those punny names are included for anyone who wants them). It is a name that borrows from the sea and from books (Siren & Sail, White Whale Roasters, Chapter One Coffee), from Seattle and the rainy Northwest (Rain City Roasters, Puget Perk), from craft-roasting vocabulary (Cupping Room, First Crack Coffee, Small Lot Coffee), or from espresso itself (Doppio, Cortado Corner, Crema & Co.).
