A Sith name is a mask. When a Sith Master accepts an apprentice, the old name is discarded and a Darth title is granted, and that title almost always encodes what the character is or will become. George Lucas built the film Sith this way: Sidious clips insidious, Tyranus clips tyrant, Plagueis clips plague, and Maul is simply the weapon. Later writers kept the habit with Darth Bane, Darth Nihilus, Darth Malgus, and Darth Krayt, though the roots got more obscure and the spellings more alien.

The practical rule for building your own is to take a menacing Latin, Greek, or English word and break it. Trim the ending (malevolent to Malevis), swap a letter (vorax from voracious), or fuse two roots (Malachar from malice and char). Aim for two syllables after Darth, three at most, with hard consonants and a hissing S somewhere. Names in the list above follow that recipe, from dictionary-adjacent options like Darth Cruor and Darth Odium to fully alien ones like Darth Vaelthar.

Remember that a Sith name is a story beat. Anakin did not pick Vader; Sidious gave it to him. Deciding who named your character, and what they meant by it, is often the best way to choose.
