About sponsorship level names

A sponsorship package usually has three to five levels, and the names do a lot of the selling. A good set tells a sponsor at a glance which level sits above which, and it sounds like it belongs to your event instead of to every event.

Each entry here is a single level name, and the list is built so that names from one theme stack into a ladder. The familiar sets are the metals and gems (Bronze Sponsor, Gold Sponsor, Platinum Partner, Diamond Benefactor) and the patronage words (Friend, Advocate, Champion, Benefactor). Above the ladder sit the top-slot names such as Presenting Sponsor and Title Sponsor, and beside it the single-item roles like Table Host, Hole Sponsor and Water Station Sponsor.

The themed families are where a package starts to sound like yours. A trail run or outdoor nonprofit can climb from Trailhead to Base Camp, Ridge and Summit. A conservation group can grow from Seedling to Sapling to Mighty Oak. Golf outings have Birdie, Eagle and Hole-in-One, theaters have Spotlight, Marquee and Encore, and school boosters have Varsity, Team Captain, MVP and Hall of Fame. Pick the theme first, then choose as many rungs as you have packages.

How to choose sponsorship level names

  • Keep the order obvious. Nobody should have to ask whether Ridge is above Base Camp. If the ranking needs explaining, pick a clearer set such as Birdie, Eagle and Albatross.
  • Give the top level a name from outside the pattern. Presenting Sponsor or Title Sponsor above a Bronze, Silver and Gold ladder shows that it is a different kind of package.
  • Give the entry level a name people are glad to see beside their own. Friend, Good Neighbor and Seedling read better on a banner than a label that sounds like the cheapest option.
  • Match the theme to the event: Starting Line, First Mile and Finish Line for a fun run, or Opening Act, Headliner and Encore for a concert series.
  • Say the whole ladder out loud in order before you print it. If two names sound alike or the step up is not clear by ear, swap one out.

Frequently asked questions

What are good names for sponsorship levels?

The standard ladder is Bronze Sponsor, Silver Sponsor, Gold Sponsor and Platinum Sponsor, often with a Presenting Sponsor on top. For something warmer, try Friend, Advocate, Champion and Benefactor, or a themed set such as Trailhead, Base Camp, Ridge and Summit.

What can I use instead of gold, silver and bronze?

Use a ladder from your own field. The list includes Seedling, Sapling and Mighty Oak for environmental causes, Birdie, Eagle and Hole-in-One for golf, Spotlight, Marquee and Encore for the arts, and Honor Roll, Dean's List and Valedictorian for schools.

How many sponsorship levels should an event have?

Three to five is common, with single-item roles such as Table Sponsor or T-Shirt Sponsor alongside for smaller budgets. Treat that as a starting point and not a rule: the right number is however many packages you can describe clearly on one page.

Can I mix names from different themes?

You can, but one theme is easier to read. A mixed set such as Friend, Eagle and Marquee gives no clue to the order, while Cub, Pride and Lion's Share or Spark, Torch and Beacon rank themselves.
