About lacrosse team names
Lacrosse has a language of its own, and a good team name usually borrows from it. Players cradle the ball, crash the crease, pick up ground balls and aim for the top shelf, and every one of those terms turns into a name: Cradle Crew, Crease Lightning, Ground Ball Gang, Top Shelf Only. Faceoff specialists, known as FOGOs, get FOGO Fighters, and the spot behind the goal that coaches call X gives X Marks the Spot.

Lacrosse was created by Indigenous nations of North America, and for the Haudenosaunee it remains a sacred game as well as a sport. Out of respect for that, this list uses no Native mascot names or imagery.
How to choose lacrosse team names
- Swap in your own town, county or region. Harbor Point Hawks and Tidal Lacrosse Club are templates: the mascot or the word club does the work, and your place name makes it yours.
- For a youth or school team, pick something that still sounds good shouted from the sideline and printed on a pinnie. Two or three words is plenty: Storm Front, Lax Pack, Night Herons.
- Save the inside jokes for adult and summer leagues. Releasable Offenders and Out of Breath by Halftime are funny on a beer-league schedule and less so on a youth banner.
- Use the vocabulary of your own game. Box teams can lean on boards, floor and shifts, and girls' teams on the draw and the eight meter, so the name tells people what you play.
- Before you order uniforms, check that no club in your league or region already uses the name.

What are good names for a girls' or women's lacrosse team?
