High Gothic Name Generator

High Gothic is the formal tongue of the Imperium of Man in Warhammer 40,000, and in practice it sounds like Latin that has drifted for ten thousand years. Names built in this register take Roman praenomina and late-antique saints' names (Lucius, Tiberius, Cassian, Hieronymus, Aurelia, Celestia) and pair them with invented cognomina full of hard consonants and classical endings: -us, -ius, -ian, -ax, -ix, -or, -ine. Canon examples set the tone, from Roboute Guilliman, Marneus Calgar and Cato Sicarius to Constantin Valdor, Sebastian Thor and Saint Celestine.

Different Imperial institutions lean on the style in different ways. Ultramarines and other Codex Chapters are the purest High Gothic; Dark Angels and Blood Angels add angelic Hebrew names like Azrael, Sammael and Mephiston; Black Templars and Imperial Fists favour Germanic-medieval forms such as Sigismund, Helbrecht and Grimaldus. The Ecclesiarchy and Sisters of Battle lean saintly and feminine-Latin (Alicia Dominica, Morvenn Vahl), while Inquisitors and Rogue Traders often carry a title as part of the name. Custodians are frequently known by a single grand name with an epithet.
