Groupchat Name Generator

Groupchat names split into two broad styles. The first is the pun or inside joke, which is great until the joke gets old. The second is the short, aesthetic name that just looks right at the top of a chat: lowercase, one to three words, often a plain noun (the coven, the archive, the pod) or a confident phrase (main characters, day ones, deeply unserious). Names of the second kind are what most friend groups actually keep long-term, and they photograph well when the chat header shows up in a screenshot or a Snapchat story.

Counting-based names are their own tradition. Trios reach for third wheel club or trifecta, groups of four take core four or quad squad, five friends become the fab five or the starting five, and so on up to the dozen. These names are useful because they announce the group's size and make it awkward to add a seventh person to the six pack, which is sometimes exactly the point. Animal names (wolf pack, silly geese, the gremlins) and mock-institutional names (the bureau, the syndicate, members only) are the other reliable families.

Most of the names below are written in lowercase because that's how they look on the apps people use most, but every one works capitalized too. Pick one that describes how the group feels rather than what it does, and it will still fit two years and three friend-group dramas later.
