Funny Golfer Name Generator
Invented pun names and nicknames for golfers
Generate funny golfer names, every one invented: pun names built on golf terms like Anita Mulligan, Sandy Bunker, Bo Geyman and Otto Bounds, plus buddy nicknames like Three-Putt Pete, Wrong Club Rob and Captain Hook.
About funny golfer names
Every name in this list is invented. It is not a list of real tour players whose names happen to be funny, and no real golfer, past or present, is in it. The joke is always the golf: Anita Mulligan needs another tee shot, Otto Bounds is reloading, Walter Hazard has found the pond again and Misty Fairway is playing from the trees.
About two thirds of the list are first-and-last pun names that only work when you say them aloud. They come in six kinds: whole sentences (Luke N. Forit, Lou Zerbuys), swing and mishit names (Chip Shankman, Cole Topp, Hazel Rocket), course and hazard names (Sandy Bunker, Barry D. Lye), scoring names (Bo Geyman, Al Batross, Evan Parr), putting names (Trey Putt, Burnett Edge) and gear, cart and weather names (Carter Path, Wayne Delay). The last third are nicknames of the kind golf buddies hand out: rhyming aliases such as Three-Putt Pete and Wrong Club Rob, and titles and bynames such as Captain Hook, Major Divot and The Fairway Stranger.
Use them on a scramble sign-up sheet, an outing name tag, a league leaderboard or a created player in a golf video game.
How to choose funny golfer names
- Say the name aloud before you use it. These are sound puns, and names like Phyllis Divot and Dewey Count-That only land when first and last name run together.
- Match the name to the golfer's game. The friend who lives in the sand gets Sandy Bunker or The Bunker Tourist, and the one who lines up every putt twice gets Slow Play Jay.
- Name a whole foursome on one theme. Bo Geyman, Dub L. Bogey, Trip L. Bogey and Uncle Bogey read well together on a scramble sheet.
- For a cart sign or a created player in a video game, pick a short one such as Trey Putt, Ed Upp or Tia Time.
- Keep real players out of it and make sure your buddy is in on the joke. A nickname about a slice is only fun if the slicer laughs too.
Frequently asked questions
What are some funny golfer names?
The best ones hide a golf phrase in a first and last name: Anita Mulligan, Sandy Bunker, Otto Bounds, Al Batross and Walter Hazard. If you prefer a nickname, Three-Putt Pete, Wrong Club Rob and Sir Shanks-a-Lot are all in the list.
Are these real golfers with funny names?
No. Every name here is made up, and the page is not a list of real tour players with funny names. Real golfers are left out on purpose, so if a name matches a real person, that is a coincidence.
What are funny nicknames for a golf buddy?
Pick the habit and name it: Winter Rules Walt for the friend who moves every lie, Foot Wedge Frank for the one whose shots mysteriously leave the trees, and Mr. Completely for the swing that misses everything. Titles work too, such as Captain Hook, Sergeant Slice and Major Divot.
Can I use these names for a created player in a golf video game?
Yes, many are short enough for a name field: Trey Putt, Cole Topp and Evan Parr are under ten letters. Games apply their own length limits and name filters, so a few of the longer names with initials may need trimming.
