Couple Name Generator

A couple name, also called a ship name or portmanteau, fuses two people's names into one word. The practice went mainstream in 2005 when tabloids coined Brangelina for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, but fandoms had already been doing it for years: Harry Potter readers were arguing about Romione versus Harmione on forums in the late 1990s, and Star Trek fans wrote about Spirk decades before that. The word "ship" itself is short for relationship.

The usual formula takes the beginning of one name and the end of the other: Draco + Hermione = Dramione, Percy + Annabeth = Percabeth, Katniss + Peeta = Everlark (using surnames Everdeen and Mellark). Fandoms also use compound titles when a blend sounds awkward: Captain Swan (Hook + Emma Swan), Outlaw Queen (Robin Hood + Regina), Swan Queen. Anime fandoms often glue the first two syllables of each name together, as in NaruHina, SasuSaku, or KiriBaku, and Pokémon fans famously use "-shipping" names like Pokeshipping and Amourshipping.

A good ship name is pronounceable, keeps a recognizable chunk of both names, and ideally means something on its own.
