Car Name Generator

Roughly a third of drivers name their car, and the patterns are consistent across surveys. Human names come first, usually with a bit of character: Betty, Bessie, Gus, Stanley, Herbie. Then colour-and-attitude combos (the Silver Bullet, Big Red, the Green Machine, Black Betty). Then names that describe the car's condition or role: the Beater, Old Reliable, the Grocery Getter, the Money Pit. Enthusiast builds and race cars go bolder, borrowing from muscle-car heritage (Eleanor, General Lee, Christine, Bumblebee, Bandit) and from words that promise speed or menace.

Manufacturers taught us the vocabulary. Ford Mustang, Dodge Charger, Chevrolet Camaro, Pontiac Firebird, Plymouth Barracuda: animals, weather, aggression, a single word with a hard sound. Japanese tuners added Skyline, Supra, Evo and Silvia; British marques leaned elegant with Spitfire, Interceptor and Vantage. A good car name usually copies one of these moves rather than stacking three adjectives.

The practical rule is that a name should match the car's personality and be usable in a sentence: 'I'll bring Bessie round' or 'the Bandit needs new tyres'. Small hatchbacks suit cute names, big sedans suit dignified ones, and anything with a turbo suits a name you can shout.
